I am sure over the next year my home screen will change over the next year as it has over the last few months I have had my iPhone. So, I thought I would share how I am starting this year with what currently resides on my home screen. Please note that my iPhone is jailbroken (for those who don’t know what that means, basically I have hacked my iPhone) and that is why my status bar, dock and icons are different than a standard iPhone.

My dock has Safari, Mail, iPod and iRealSMS which I use as my messaging application. iRealSMS is a jailbroken application for text messaging and costs about $12.50 or 9.99 Euros. Okay, enough about jailbreaking and jailbroken apps, let’s get to the applications you can get in the iTunes Store. All links for applications link to the iTunes Store.
ProCamera
($1.99) – I have this as my first application on my home screen in place of the standard Apple camera application because it gives me much more functionality for both photos and videos. Read my post, ProCamera Almost Does It All.
Contacts – It’s nice to have my contacts right there at my fingertips though if another application comes along that I deem more important to be on the home screen it could be moved from it’s coveted place since I can easily access Favorites and Contacts by pressing the phone button on the dock.
Calendar – I use the calendar application quite a bit and sync with both Microsoft Outlook on my Windows computers and iCal on my MacBook.
ToDo
($9.99) – I won this todo application through a contest with GearDiary and prior to using it I don’t think I would have bought it. However, after using it for just a few days and its ability to sync with iCal todo list and Microsoft Outlook todo’s I really see the value. It would be nice if it synced directly with the calendar on the iPhone but that’s still closed territory with Apple.

Photos – Not much to say here except it’s nice to have my camera roll and photos I’ve synced from my computer at my fingertips to show off photos quickly to friends and family.
YouMail
(free) – I don’t use the voicemail that comes with my AT&T service. Instead I use a more personalized service called YouMail which lets me select greetings per caller and sends me voice transcriptions (a $1.99 per month fee for that feature plus more premium services) of messages left by callers. The application ties in with my YouMail service, showing a count of messages, transcriptions plus I can listen to voicemail directly through the app. If you are looking for an alternative to your phone service voicemail give YouMail a try, it’s free for the basic functions including personalizing greetings per caller.
BeeJiveIM
(currently on sale for $5.99, I think it is usually $9.99) – I use this as my instant messaging application. I tried Trillian ($4.99) as well but prefer BeeJiveIM.
WeatherBug Elite
($.99) – My goto application for weather on both my iPhone and my computers. See my post, WeatherBug is the Weather Application For Me.
Evernote
(free) – I have been using Evernote on my computers for over a year now so when I got my iPhone it was one of the first apps that I installed. Syncing notes back and forth between my computers and my iPhone is great. I love the ability to take a photo of a magazine item when I am out and it syncs online and to my computers within minutes (seconds if I press the sync button). I use Evernote a lot and love having access to my notes when I am on the road.

Facebook
(free) – This is my way of staying up to date with all my friends through Facebook. If you are on Facebook you need this application!
Tweetie 2
($2.99) – This is my go-to Twitter client. I’ve tried others including the free Tweetdeck but still come back to Tweetie 2. The interface is simple but it is also jammed packed with features including handling lists. The only thing missing is Push Notifications for replies and direct tweets but I use Boxcar
(free for 1st service) to send me notifications.

SayAgain
($1.99) – I listen to audiobooks on my iPhone and find SayAgain an invaluable tool for bookmarking where I have left off and make annotations if I want. This app works with the iPod app for listening so I can start listening in SayAgain and close the program but not stop the playback of my book, when I am ready to set a bookmark I open the app back up and mark it. It’s been a real life saver because it seems like every time I sync my iPhone i lose my place and I can easily find it with this app.
Magellan RoadMate North America
(currently on sale for $59.99 till Jan. 3, 2010, $40 off) – This is my GPS application. It has been extremely accurate for me, recalculates routes quickly, has extensive points of interest library, announces street names and has iPod controls built in.
Pastebot
($2.99) – A nice clipboard manager that also syncs with my MacBook. Read my post, Get A Comprehensive Clipboard Manager With Pastebot, for more information about this app.
FlickTunes
(free) – A great way to control your iPod while driving, walking or just listening to music. Use swipes of your fingers to control your music. It’s a definite for me while walking on the treadmill at the gym!
Settings - Have my settings at hand with a tap of my finger.
Well, there is my home screen for the first day of 2010. I know that new applications will come out that will change my layout and what is important to me. What’s on your home screen?
