Facebook 3.1 Adds Push Notifications and Contact Syncing

Filed in Applications 0 comments

Facebook users rejoice!  New version 3.1 brings push notifications to the iPhone/iPod Touch as well as contact syncing with Facebook.  If you have yet to download the Facebook app and you are on Facebook, shame on you :)

Really, this new version should inspire you to download the app so you know whenever any sends you a message, writes on your wall, requests or confirms your friendship, tags you in a photo, comments on a posting or invites you to an event.  Be in touch with the cyberworld!

For those of you who don’t want notifications for everything to do with you and for the very popular who don’t want to be interrupted constantly, first off you can turn off all notifications for Facebook by going into Settings –>Notifications –> Facebook and Turning off Sounds & Alerts.  If you want to choose which notifications to receive go into Settings –> Facebook –> Push Notifications and turn off those you don’t want to receive.

A nice feature though is having updated photos and information on your contacts and links to their profile on Facebook.  It will not add all your Facebook friends as contacts, thankfully, but it would be nice to select friends and have them added to my contacts.  Also, a slight bug happened when I synced which is that I have a sister and niece with the same first initial and last name yet it synced the photos and Facebook page as my sister.  Anyone else experience any odd syncing issues?

Anyway, I have been waiting for push notifications and glad to see that version 3.1 of Facebook has them.
