Get A Comprehensive Clipboard Manager With Pastebot

Yesterday I was browsing my Twitter friends posts and came across one from Larry Greenberg for an iPhone/iPod Touch application called Pastebot Pastebot ? Command Copy & Paste.  He’s created a pretty nice video and posted it on YouTube which I suggest you watch after reading my post and spending the $2.99 on the application.  Pastebot is a comprehensive clipboard manager that lets you organize, edit and share text and images that you copy to your clipboard.  Copy something, open Pastebot and it automatically is imported for later access.  You may wonder, why do I need an application to do that?  I asked myself the same thing and then  I watched Larry’s video and I was sold.  Part of the reason though is because I have a MacBook and with Pastebot Sync installed on it I am able to easily send text and images to and from both devices.

So, I was browsing the web today on my iPhone and I came across a few items I copied and opened Pastebot to save them (you need to run Pastebot each time you want to save something).  I synced them with my Mac wirelessly and now they are on my computer.   One was the photo of a kafkan I like and I was able to go into Pastebot on my iPhone and edit the title then sync it with my Mac.  I could have taken the image and added effects to it if I wanted to but I wanted this one showing as is.

These are the features of Pastebot:

  • Save, organize, and edit text and image clippings.
  • Organize clippings into folders.
  • Search text, perform find and replace and other functions on saved text clips.
  • Use filters on images like convert to black and white or sepia.
  • Copy items back to iPhone/iPod clipboard.
  • Send clippings as emails within the application.
  • Save images to your camera roll.
  • Sync wirelessly with your Mac.

Visit the Pastebot website for even more information or to download Pastebot Sync for your Mac.  They also have a demo video that brings you through the application.

What do you think?  Is Pastebot for you?  Do you use another application?

#1 Sebastien :

This app looks ok but what happens if I wanna paste text into my notes app? Do I have to open Pastebot, close it, launch app, and finally paste? Cumbersome!

If your iPhone is jailbroken, I recommend Action Menu. Does pretty much just this without the zillion extra steps. It’s one of my fav apps!

Hi Sebastien, thanks for your input. If you just want to paste text into your note app then just do a simple copy and paste, just like you would on your computer. Pastebot is more for keeping track of the items you oopy if you want to and also pasting them directly to your Mac if you have one.

I wrote a blog post yesterday and was able to copy a screen on my iPhone, copy it into Pastebot then paste it directly into my blogging application on my Mac. That was pretty neat. Pastebot works very well with images.

I do agree the extra step of having to open up Pastebot is a pain. Also, since I am jailbroken I tried Backgrounder to see if I ran Pastebot in the background that it would automatically paste into Pastebot but that wasn’t so, the action of opening Pastebot is what makes it paste into the app. It would be awesome if I could just keep it running in the background and it would pick up every copy but it isn’t so.

Also, Evernote syncs data, both text and photos between the iPhone and my Mac, as well as my PCs so that is another option to Pastebot and it is free. It’s just the sync isn’t as instantaneous as it is with Pastebot. It’s an alternative, especially if you aren’t jailbroken, and you want to save $2.99.

I never heard of Action Menu and thank you for suggesting it. I downloaded that and Action Menu Plus ($2.99) to see if it worked with images which is doesn’t but I do like that Action Menu Plus will tweet text to Tweetie and do lookups in Google. It also doesn’t sync but like I said above that can be taken care of with Evernote. Thanks again!

So, I think watching the video that Larry Greenberg did and visiting the Pastebot website is smart before buying the application. There are alternatives as you pointed out and as I thought about later with Evernote.
