I’m not a gamer but having the iPhone has opened my eyes to ways I can play games and not look like a fool. Action packed games aren’t for me but playing a few games that require some dexterity isn’t a bad thing. A little strategy goes a long way too. So, with that said here are the games that I enjoy playing.
- Rock Band (
, currently on sale for $4.99) – This game definitely tests my dexterity and ability to stay on the beat. I don’t play Rock Band after having a few cups of coffee because my fingers shake and I miss the buttons but I find it fun to pass a few minutes trying to play George Thoroughgood’s Bad to the Bone or my favorite by the Go-Go’s, We Got the Beat. I still play the easiest level and mostly drums at this point but I hope to get good enough to move to the next level and post some high scores!
You can chose between playing the bass, guitar, drums or sing the vocals. If you miss a note it doesn’t play so when the fingers aren’t moving properly the music sounds funny. Currently there are 26 free songs to select from with various levels of diificulty plus you can by music. The one reason I like Rock Band is that I am familiar with a lot of the music which makes it fun to try and be a Rock Star.
- Tap Tap Revenge 3 (
, Free) – Similar to Rock Band except that you don’t select the instrument you want to play, you just basically are keeping the beat. Also, it’s free with a number of free songs to choose from and more that you can purchase.
As you gain points and advance levels then more free songs are available. It’s fun to play but my biggest problem is I don’t know many of the songs so it’s very challenging.
- Monopoly (
, $4.99) – It’s so fun to play Monopoly on my iPhone. The very first game I played, over a few days as time permitted, I won and my Dog token jumped up and down for joy. Of course the second game I lost and the third but I am working on winning my fourth game. It’s the Monopoly I grew up with and it is simple to move the token around and shake the phone to roll the dice. If you don’t mind spending $5 and are nostalgic for a strategic boardgame then downloading Monopoly is for you like it’s been for me.
- Words With Friends (
, Free ad-supported,
on sale for $1.99, normally $2.99) – Words With Friends is your basic Scrabble game that you play against a random player or your friends across a network. You can invite friends through Twitter and Facebook, play online or pass your device to the person next to you. The nice thing about Words With Friends is that I can do other things on my phone while I wait for my opponent to make his move and a notification will let me know when it is my turn to play.
Sometimes the moves might take hours but not to fret, you can play up to 20 games at the same time for constant action or take your time and only play one or two games. I am addicted to playing Words With Friends first thing in the morning while I browse the web and watch the morning news.
- Skee-Ball (
, $.99) – This is an arcade favorite of mine from when I was a child and teenager.
There really isn’t much more to say except that it is a great time waster and fun to play when I have just few minutes of waiting in line at the grocery store or sitting in the car waiting for a friend.
So there is my list. What are your favorite games you play on your iPhone/iPod Touch? I am getting more adventurous so I would love to know.
