You Can Never Have Enough Cases – Speck Candyshell

Filed in Accessories 0 comments

I read on one of the iPhone forums that you can never have enough cases. There are so many to choose from, different styles, colors and functions. Up till yesterday I had my iFrogz case, a Case Logic slider case and then my Mophie Juice Pack Air which is both a case and a battery. The iFrogz case had problems with the tab (see my post here) so basically I have been alternating between the Case Logic and Mophie depending on whether I needed the extended battery or not.

Recently I took my dad to the Apple store to get a case for his iPod Touch and based on feel and a good level of protection he chose the Speck Candyshell case. I have to say I was a bit envious because I really liked the feel and look of the case. He paid $34.95 for it at the store but I knew I could probably find it cheaper online for my iPhone, also I knew I was getting a gift card from Amazon for my affiliate payment so I waited. I’m glad I did because on it cost me only $21.23 for the white/gray case to match my white iPhone. I applied my gift card and got the case yesterday and love it!

What makes the Speck Candyshell special is that it is a cross between a soft and hard case, basically it gives the protection of a hard case but has a soft case feel.

  • Lightweight, flexible one-piece design combines the insulation of a skin with the durability and sleekness of a hard shell
  • Glossy outer hard shell slips in and out of pockets easily and protects from scratches
  • Colorful, contrasting rubberized interior offers extra shock absorption from drops
  • Includes cleaning cloth and removable screen protector film for extra scratch resistance

The volume and power buttons are covered which is nice and the charging port is nice and open as well as the speakers. The case really has a nice feel, not slippery though easily slips in and out of pockets. I love the lightweight feel of the case yet at the same time feel as though my iPhone is well protected. The screen protector is a pretty basic glossy film which installed very easily.

The case fits firmly on the phone, no slippage whatsoever and won’t split apart like a two piece case would. However, that means that it’s a bit of a task to put the case on and take it off. Following the directions help, you put the case on starting bottom first then slip the top of the phone into the case. Taking it off you turn the case over and while pushing about 3/4 up the back of the case pull the top rim away from the phone. After doing this a few times I have it down pat and getting the phone out of the case isn’t so difficult.

If you are looking for a case that fits your iPhone or iPod Touch snuggly and offers good protection from drops and scratches then I recommend you check out the Speck Candyshell. I’m not envious of my dad anymore since I got this case!

What’s your favorite case? As I said you can never have too many and one I will be looking for this summer is a case that offers maximum protection while at the pool, do you have any suggestions?
